Asked. Answered.
Nine suites, one house, two hosts — and the questions we hear most often. If yours isn't here, just write to us. We usually reply the same day.

The House
What is the Alpenloge, and where is it?
The Alpenloge is a small, owner-run boutique design hotel with nine individually designed suites in Scheffau near Scheidegg in the Westallgäu — close to Lake Constance and the Bregenz Forest.
The house was built in 2019, after the old village school was demolished, in the same shape and style. It sits quietly at the edge of the village, surrounded by meadows and mountains, with wide views in all four directions.
How many suites are there?
Nine — generous rooms and suites, each with its own design, its own colours and its own character, built with quality natural materials and, for the most part, with a balcony or terrace. Each suite is named after the direction it faces — Suite Three SW, for southwest, for example.
You're not booking a category, but this one specific suite. The minimum stay is two nights; exceptions are possible depending on availability or at short notice, on request.
Who are your hosts?
The Alpenloge is run personally by Anja Schott-Engelke and Michael Schott. The two of them planned and designed the house with an eye for detail — from the architecture to the interior design to the kitchen.
Guests often mention the exceptionally personal service and the warm, unobtrusive atmosphere in their reviews.
Who is the Alpenloge right for?
We're a small house, and we don't want to be one for everyone. Our guests tend to be:
- Couples and connoisseurs who value quiet and classic-modern design
- Nature lovers and culture enthusiasts — Lake Constance, the Allgäu, Vorarlberg, Switzerland and Liechtenstein are all on our doorstep
- Those seeking calm, who prefer a small, personal house to a big hotel
- People who want to steer clear of mass tourism
Booking and Getting Here
Where can I see prices, and how do I book?
The price overview is under “Prices & Availability”. All nine suites are listed there with current prices, and you can book directly.
If you'd rather talk to someone: call +49 8381 9123600 or email stay@alpenloge.com. We're always happy to help.
How early should I book?
As early as possible, especially during high season and the Bregenz Festival. With only nine suites, the house fills up fast, and the packages are often the first to go.
If you have specific dates in mind, book directly through the website or ask us — we'll secure you the best available rate.
Are there packages for longer stays?
Yes. With “Stay Longer 4 = 3” you stay four nights and pay for three; with “Stay Longer 7 = 5” it's seven nights for the price of five.
There are also changing seasonal packages, for example around a winter weekend or the Allgäu's spring awakening. All offers can be booked online and used subject to availability.
How do I get to you?
By car: twenty-five minutes from Lindau on Lake Constance, twenty minutes from Bregenz. Parking is available at the house; garage spaces are available for a fee (around €15 per night).
By train and bus: to Bregenz, Oberstaufen or Lindau, then by taxi or directly by bus 821 from Bregenz to Scheffau.
By air: Friedrichshafen is 30 km away, Memmingen 60 km, Zurich 100 km and Munich 170 km.
What are check-in and check-out times?
Check-in from 4 pm, check-out by 11 am. If you're arriving earlier or need to leave later, just let us know — we can usually find a solution.
Can I book the whole house?
Yes. For small groups of up to twenty people, for teams, retreats or special occasions like a birthday or anniversary in an intimate setting, the Alpenloge can be booked exclusively.
Requests like this are best sent directly to us.
In the House
Is breakfast included?
Yes, breakfast is always included in the price. It arrives at the table on tiered stands and is also prepared fresh à la carte — in the conservatory, in the living room, or on the terrace when the weather's fine.
Expect homemade jams, fresh egg dishes from organic hens from the village, regional cheese specialities, farmhouse butter from the local dairy, and seasonal produce from the Allgäu.
Is there a spa area?
Yes — the Badstube. A wellness area for unwinding, with a view of nature instead of a tiled wall.
- Finnish panorama sauna
- Salt steam bath
- Relaxation room with fireplace and a view of the greenery
- Massages and treatments by appointment
- Bathrobes, bath slippers, towels, a tea station and natural cosmetics are provided
How are the suites equipped?
The whole house has free high-speed fibre-optic WiFi. In the suites, you'll find:
- Beds from the Schramm workshop with topper
- Nespresso machine and tea station
- Flat-screen TV
- Allergy-friendly bedding and natural cosmetics
Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are allowed on request in certain suites, for a fee of €30 per night excluding food. We're happy to provide a dog bed, bowls and blankets.
Please mention your dog when booking: some suites are reserved for allergy sufferers and can't be booked with a dog.
Around Us
What can I do in the area?
The Alpenloge lies in the Allgäu, right on the Austrian border, twenty minutes from Lake Constance.
From spring to autumn: hiking, cycling and e-biking straight from the door, nature in the Allgäu and the Bregenz Forest, day trips to Lake Constance for swimming, sailing or a boat cruise. Plus culture — the Bregenz Festival, the Kunsthaus Bregenz, the Zeppelin Museum, the Hat Museum in Lindenberg — and towns like Wangen, Bregenz, Feldkirch, Ravensburg and St. Gallen.
In winter: cross-country skiing on the village trail, snowshoeing, and small ski areas nearby like Hochgrat, Bödele, Hochhäderich and Scheidegg. Followed by the sauna, an evening by the fire, and a culinary winter package.
Guided hikes are available on request; we organise herb walks, yoga sessions and culinary evenings together with local partners. And you'll get the best tips from us anyway, over breakfast.
What do guests say about the Alpenloge?
On Google we average 4.9 out of 5 stars, on TripAdvisor also 4.9 out of 5, and on Booking 9.9 out of 10.
The same three things come up again and again: the quiet, the interiors, and the food. “A place to truly unwind” is the phrase we hear most.
What awards has the house received?
The most important, in brief:
- 1 Key in the MICHELIN Hotel Guide
- Best of Architecture — “The Most Beautiful Restaurants, Hotels and Bars 2025” from Callwey Verlag
- SPA Award 2025 and 2026 from RELAX Guide: 1 Lily, 14 out of 20 points
- Falstaff: 90 out of 100 points
- Connoisseur Circle: “Hideaway with Flair”
Do you also offer interior design?
Yes, but not as a hotel service: Anja Schott-Engelke and Michael Schott run their own interior design studio, Studio Schott. It also designed the Alpenloge — which is what earned the Callwey Verlag award.
The studio designs houses, apartments and holiday homes as well as restaurants and hotels, works with well-known furniture and paint makers, and specifically seeks out small workshops off the mainstream. Consulting is available hourly or per project.
