Luxury is reduction to what matters.
Boutique hotel in Scheidegg, Westallgäu
Talk of luxury rarely means opulence any more. It means what everyday life uses up fastest: space, quiet, and the absence of fuss. Nine suites in the four-country corner, between Lake Constance, the Bregenzerwald and Switzerland.

The manifesto
A refusal of the serial.
Run by Anja Schott-Engelke and Michael Schott, the Alpenloge was not built to fill a gap in the market. It was built as a private retreat. It stands where the village school of the 1930s stood, rebuilt in 2019 in the same volume — red pitched roof, muntin windows, wooden shingles.
Grounded in the Westallgäu, close to Lake Constance, the Bregenzerwald and Switzerland. Near enough for the day outside, far enough away for the evening indoors.
“A boutique hotel is not a statement of capacity. It is a refusal of the serial.”

Curated space
A workshop, not a catalogue.
The interiors — designed by Studio Schott — refuse interchangeable hotel design. Colour here is not decoration. It is a position.
Nine suites, nine characters. Each follows its own dramaturgy of light, proportion and orientation. Morning sun in the south-east, long evening light in the south-west, cool clarity in the north-east.
Texture and material. Reclaimed wood, raw natural stone, fabrics you want to touch and floral accents compose something layered. Surfaces with dignity, which gain character as they are used.
The box seat. Generous sightlines bring the alpine panorama close. You don't live beside the landscape here. You live inside it.

The Badstube
Room for focus and slowing down.
The Badstube stands for the principle of the house: a spa that deliberately does without staging, and works on immersion instead.
An architecture of retreat. Rooms flooded with light, a panorama sauna looking out over the hills, a salt steam bath and an open fire in the relaxation room.
A fine balance
The RELAX Guide 2026 awards the concept a lily and 14 out of 20 points — recognition of a culture of rest built for a maximum of 18 guests, not for hundreds.

A culinary position
The culture of the served.
The morning. A ritual at the table, not an anonymous buffet under warming lamps. Bread from a craft bakery, cheese from the dairies down the road, and compositions brought to you rather than queued for.
The evening. Limitation as freedom. Instead of rigid half board, your hosts practise the art of the honest recommendation — towards the best tables in the four-country corner.
Resonance
At home and abroad.

The profile
A home for a while.
The Alpenloge is a house for people with an eye for things, for anyone genuinely looking to slow down, and for those who value the fine in the understated.
It does without entertainment programmes, animation and sprawling water parks — to make room for what lasts.
