Autumn in the Alpenloge
By the end of August at the latest, the first wisps of fog drift through the valleys in the morning, heralding the third season. The leaves gradually lose their green hue, and temperatures cool down to pleasant levels. It won’t be long now before the deciduous forests are completely bathed in warm reds, yellows, and browns—the Indian summer in the Allgäu. The air is also clear and fresh, offering fantastic views. The mountain huts are still open, and after a mountain or bike tour, many a hut treat tastes twice as good. After the cattle drive in mid-September, the mountains become quiet again. The shepherds hand over their young cattle to their owners in the valley.
